                   AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 9585, 
                   THE BUDGET ORDINANCE, ENCAPTIONED AS 
                   HEREINBELOW SET FORTH.
                   
                   
                                                     
                   
                   
       	    	 SECTION 1.  BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE 
       CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That Ordinance No. 9585, the 
       Budget Ordinance, encaptioned as follows:
            AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE REVENUE FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 
            BEGINNING JULY 1, 1991, AND ENDING JUNE 30, 1992, AND 
            APPROPRIATING SAME TO THE PAYMENT OF EXPENSES OF THE 
            MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT; FIXING THE RATE OF TAXATION ON ALL 
            TAXABLE PROPERTY IN THE CITY, AND THE TIME TAXES AND 
            PRIVILEGES ARE DUE, HOW THEY SHALL BE PAID, WHEN THEY 
            SHALL BECOME DELINQUENT; AND PROVIDING FOR INTEREST AND 
            PENALTY ON DELINQUENT TAXES AND PRIVILEGES.
            
       be and is hereby amended by adding to the end of Section 7(a) the 
       following:
            ". . . ; together with any applicable step increase 
            during the Fiscal Year.  Employees covered by the 'Pay 
            Plan' and receiving a salary or wage in an amount equal 
            to or greater than step 12 in their respective pay grade 
            shall receive a 'one time' payment of $500.00 in lieu of 
            a percentage (%) increase.  Also, employees not covered 
            by the 'pay plan' shall receive three percent (3%) more 
            per pay period than they are presently being paid 
            effective July 1, 1991."
            
       	    	 SECTION 2.  BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, That the Budget 
       Ordinance is amended by reinstating the Funds for Step Pay 
       Increases and by appropriating for said purpose the amount of 
       $200,000.00 from the Capital Improvements Fund, $200,000.00 from 
       the Renewal and Replacement Fund, and $225,758.76 from the 
       Contingency Fund.
       	    	 SECTION 3.  BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, That this Ordinance 
       shall take effect two (2) weeks from and after its passage as 
       provided by law.
